For those of you who didn’t know, Austin and I have been living with my parents since last Fall. That’s right, just a couple short months after getting married, and after some serious discussion, we decided that we really didn’t want to waste anymore time. We were ready for the next chapter in our lives. No, not children, but to buy a home! We felt the smartest and quickest way to get ourselves to a point where we were financially ready to buy a home was to move in with my parents and save, save, save.
So, here we are, nearly 9 months later, with thousands in our savings, and finally ready to move!!!…
To an apartment.
I know, I know. I’ve had about a bazillion of my friends already ask me, “what happened to buying a house?” At first I was embarrassed to tell them that it wasn’t working out for us. That we couldn’t get approved for a loan. That we’ve completely failed at adulting. But that’s bullshit. Why? Because the “system” or whatever the heck you want to call it, makes it nearly impossible for newlyweds in their 20’s who have student debt, but work hard, get approved for a realistic house loan.
Are we throwing in the towel? No way. I will never give up on our dream of owning a home. But I am willing to slow the process down. What’s the rush anyway? Who says an apartment can’t be made into a home? So, we’re simply bettering our situation for these next 12 months. You’ll see us working hard, saving more, and making memories.
The point is, never give up on your dream. Sometimes you’ll find it takes you longer to reach those special goals and that’s okay. I think someone once said that life is an adventure and we must embrace the journey. I like to think that someone knew what they were talking about.
So, here’s to moving into our third apartment together and embracing the shit out of it! It’s bittersweet, but more than anything, I am so excited to create a home with my husband and our furbabies. Whether we have upstairs neighbors or not, it’ll still be our home-sweet-home for the next 12 months. Okay, let’s be real, I can’t friggin’ wait to decorate. Helloooo Target and HomeGoods!!!
If you want to get in on the action in real-life time, check out Austin and I’s vlog channel here. We’ve been vlogging 2-3 times a week for the last 4 months and if you’re anything like me, you’ll be obsessed with watching the moving vlogs. Yes, I just softly admitted I have an addiction to daily vlogs and apartment tours. I’ve even been considering joining AAA (apartment addicts anonymous). No, but seriously, it would make our day if you came and supported our channel on YouTube! 🙂
Don’t forget, I la-la-love hearing from you in the comments! What is one dream you have that you’ve felt didn’t go as smoothly as you thought it would? What did/do you have to do in order to reach it? What is something that keeps you grounded during the frustrating moments? Comment below!
