Hey entrepreneurs, whatever it is that you do, have you ever had one of those moments where you think, “holy shit, I’m a ________!?!” I know I can’t be the only one.
Over the weekend, on a frigid and snowy day — a day where I’d never consider booking a photo session — I caught myself randomly thinking about how badass my job is. I’m a professional photographer. And I’m not usually one to brag, but I’m a damn good one. Hey, sometimes it’s necessary to cheer yourself on! You should do it more often.
Of course, I feel endlessly grateful that my career just so happens to be one of my favorite hobbies, but I realize that I owe a lot of that gratitude not only to all the incredible people who have supported me along the way, but also to myself. Because at the end of the day, it’s just me and this burning passion of mine. It’s me who has cried tears of frustration, tears of defeat, and tears of joy. It’s me who lost sleep while designing websites, writing blog posts, and editing photographs. It’s me who has spent countless hours researching and watching/reading free tutorials, because I couldn’t always afford fancy training. It’s me who took this wild dream of mine, proved many wrong, and turned it into what’s becoming a successful career.
So, to the passion-driven and sometimes soul-defeated entrepreneur out there — yes, it takes time; yes, it takes money; yes, it takes fire; and yes, there will be failure. Just remember, that wherever you are in your journey today, you are further than you were yesterday. And you deserve so much applause. Take a moment to let it sink in, and think, “holy shit, I’m building a business I love!”
